Emergency Tree Plan for the UK

Writer's picture: Adam CadeAdam Cade

The Woodland Trust's Emergency Tree Plan sets out exactly how the UK can tackle its biodiversity crisis and the global climate crisis by planting trees and protecting and restoring woodland on an unprecedented scale.

Trees and woods can help to fight climate change by storing carbon, keeping it locked up for centuries.

The Committee on Climate Change states that the UK needs 1.5 million hectares of additional woodland by 2050 to help hit the net zero carbon emissions target. Increasing tree cover needs to happen faster and at a far greater scale than ever before - and crucially - needs to be sustained over several decades.
